‘The Dartmoor Suite’ is a collection of musical compositions inspired by my experiences of Dartmoor. I wrote them over a period of seven years during which I explored a more minimalist approach to the music. My aim was to evoke a sense of the dramatic and expansive landscape encountered on the moor.
As the project evolved I used certain landscape features to assemble different sections of the suite. This sense of place developed into themes that eventually became compositions about Red Lake and the River Dart. Other sections explore different aspects of the moor such as the weather flowing across the static landscape.
I am also working towards recording a collection of piano pieces I have written over the past fifteen years. They explore a different musical language to the Dartmoor Suite being more harmonic and melodic. These compositions are inspired by emotional journeys and therefore are stylistically distinct from my other piano compositions.
